President Mnangagwa’s ability to balance politics and economics endeared him to the electorate in Mashonaland West leading to his victory in the recently held harmonised elections, a senior party official has said.
Speaking during a Zanu-PF harmonised elections review held in Chinhoyi this week, provincial vice chairman Cde Dexter Nduna said President Mnangagwa deserved to be honoured for avoiding bias in his political career.
He said the President-elect did not neglect the country’s needs regardless of the tough political race he was involved in against MDC-Alliance’s Mr Nelson Chamisa.
President Mnangagwa got 50,8 percent of the total votes cast, beating his closest rival Mr Chamisa, who was leading a coalition of seven political parties, who got 44,3 percent of the presidential votes.
“We need to congratulate President Mnangagwa who, regardless of his busy schedule, had an opportune moment and time to address Zanu-PF supporters across the province,” he said.
“He was commissioning various projects and officially ground-breaking other projects which contributed immensely to the resounding victory we are celebrating today.”
Cde Nduna congratulated the Mashonaland West province for emerging as one of the provinces that recorded the highest number of voters.
President Mnangagwa received 312 958 votes to Mr Chamisa’s 217 732 votes.
“Mashonaland West was the G40 cabal’s epicentre where the former president Mugabe comes from,” said Cde Nduna.
“This certainly was a sweet victory for the ruling party. We are quite elated that we are among the top four provinces that received overwhelming support for President Mnangagwa during the elections.”
Cde Nduna also applauded the Zanu-PF Women’s League, Youth League, war veterans and Zimbabweans in general who voted for Zanu-PF and its presidential candidate President Mnangagwa.
Zanu-PF won 17 out of the 22 National Assembly seats in Mashonaland West losing the urban centres of Chegutu West, Chinhoyi, Kadoma and Kariba.
