THE Mashonaland West Show Society has unveiled an ambitious futuristic Master Plan to transform the show grounds into a state-of-the-art smart city.
The project is expected to cost US$30 million.
Show Society chairman, Godfrey Mavhankeni, told H- Metro said their Master Plan includes the construction of a hotel, sports pavilion, amphitheatre and theme park in line with their smart cities concept.
Mavhankeni said the project is going to be a private public partnership with the Zimbabwe Builders and Contractors Association.
“Mashonaland West Agric Show Society, with the assistance of the office of the Minister of State for Mashonaland West Province, has moved a step up by planning to transform the showgrounds into a state-of-the-art Smart City, “ said Mavhankeni.
“I have a belief that in order to succeed in life, you ought to dream big.
“In order for the project to succeed, we are going to adopt a private public partnership model.
“As we are the biggest exhibition venue in the province, the master plan represents a step forward in enhancing economic activities in the province and thereby growing the GDP,” he said.
Mavhankeni said they believe they have a big part to play in the development of the provincial economy.
“Our goal is to promote the government’s development agenda thereby realising the country’s 2030 vision of transforming the economy into an upper middle-income status,” said Mavhankeni.
The annual show was moved from July 31 to August to August 31 because of the SADC Industrialisation Week that fell on the initial dates.
This year’s theme is “ Productivity for Industrialisation and Economic Development “
The show society sent 12 invitations to foreign embassies.
