The tournament, which was initially expected to feature five provinces, saw four provinces – Mashonaland West, Manicaland, Harare and Midlands fighting for honours.
Bulawayo failed to make it for the event due to other commitments.
The winners won three of the six matches they played to collect nine points in the three-day event that started on Friday and ended on Sunday.
Mashonaland West lost their opening match 10-9 to Manicaland before they recovered in the second game and beat Midlands 7-6. They went on to defeat Harare 8-5 before they overpowered Manicaland 6-5 in their reverse match.
Manicaland were the runners up because of goal difference having also won three matches. They dismissed Midlands 4-2 in their second match and massacred Harare 7-0.
Midlands and Harare came third and fourth respectively. The competition was used as part of preparations for the national 19-and-under team that will be competing in the International Softball Federation Junior Women Championships in Cape Town, South Africa, in December.
ZSA president, Stonard Mapfumo said the event was an eye-opener for the national team coach.
“Players in the national team played in the inter-provincials and they had a full day training session during the games.
“They also played against a mixed senior men and women’s team and they were lost 17-6 but it was an eye opener because the coaches had an opportunity to look at the areas that needs to be worked on.
“It was an opportunity of putting them together under one play and instruction. We are hoping that they will be able to regroup here in Harare in two weeks time,” said Mapfumo.
The national association is scheduled to hold a tournament for the seniors from September 30 to October 2 in Harare and Mapfumo said they will field the World Championships team in the event as they continue with their preparations.
