Walter Nyamukondiwa-Mashonaland West Bureau Chief
Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo yesterday officially handed over five of the seven tractors and implements allocated to the province under the Youth Empowerment Scheme.
The scheme aims to bolster agricultural productivity among the youth in the region.
Each of the seven districts in Mashonaland West will receive a tractor along with essential farming implements, including disc harrows, boom sprayers, and planters
At the handover ceremony, Minister Chombo said the initiative underscores President Mnangagwa’s commitment to empowering the youth.
“As a province, we want to see improved production on the farms,” she said.
“This is a demonstration of President Mnangagwa’s commitment to uplifting the lives of young people.”
Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial youth chairman, Cde Tapiwa Masenda, expressed gratitude to the President for the provision of the tractors
“We are thankful that the Government has empowered us with land, and now you have gone further to equip us with tractors and implements,” said Cde Masenda.
He urged the youth to work diligently to maintain Mashonaland West’s status as the breadbasket of the country
A youth executive member from Hurungwe District, Cde Shepherd Marime, noted that the lives of young people are progressively improving thanks to focused empowerment initiatives of the Second Republic.
“We are grateful to the President and the Government for this support. Previously, we had to hire tractors at a cost, but now things will be much easier for us,” he said.
Another youth leader, Cde Tapiwa Karonga, said the President is preparing the next generation to contribute meaningfully to national development. “These initiatives will empower us to take charge of our futures and make significant contributions to our communities,” he said.
Mr Tawanda Chagwadikira from the Youth Desk in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, highlighted the transformative impact of these initiatives under the Second Republic
“We have received tractors today, and previously, we were provided with land and livestock, including cattle, pigs and goats.
“The lives of youths are being transformed,” he noted.
President Mnangagwa has committed to donating equipment to all ten provinces under the US$2 million Presidential Youth Empowerment Revolving Fund.
This comprehensive approach aims not only to provide immediate resources, but also to foster long-term agricultural sustainability and economic empowerment for the youth across the nation.
