Mashaba speaks on Zim tour

South African gospel artiste  Winnie Mashaba who was in the country for shows last weekend said, despite the low attendance to the concerts, she was happy her dream of coming to Zimbabwe had finally came to pass.“Zimbabwe is so beautiful and the environment is friendly.

“People of this country are so caring and they made me to feel at home. I would like to come back for a holiday and visit the Victoria Falls,” she said.

“I have been to other countries before but Zimbabwe is the best. My dream of coming to this nation has come to pass. I received quite a number of invitations before but failed to come because of the logistics and the preparations required are expensive”, she said.

It is her desire to work with upcoming artistes in the country.

“This is a starting point for everything because I want to create a strong relationship with the local artistes.

“It has always been my desire to work with upcoming artistes and when my friend Letwin Gavhure-Chawira requested for my help I accepted.

“That is why I featured on two songs on her new album she launched on Saturday at Harare Gardens.

“I want to thank all the people that came to support me on the two shows we had in the country.

“Numbers do not matter but what is important is that some people came to support us.”

Back home Mashaba recently established a choir called Rorisa Fela meaning Just Praise and believes it will take her to greater heights.

Mashaba is riding high with her 12th inspirational album titled “Bophelo Ke Leeto” and scooped a Best Female Artiste at SABC’s Crown Awards last month.

Mashaba is a decorated gospel musician with accolades and nominations that include the 2005 Kora Africa Music Award, SA Music Awards nomination and Metro FM Music Awards.

Mashaba has hit songs such as “Menwana Phezulu”, “Re Tla Mo Leboga Kang”, “Joang kapa Joang” and “Ke Rata Wena”.

She was voted Best Gospel Artiste of the Year 2006 for TUT FM. She won the One Gospel Best Song of the Year award for “Hakena Nako” in 2008 and the 2010 Best Female Artiste at the Crown Gospel Awards.
