ZIFA chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze’s future at the association will be determined by the Board when they meet in Harare next Tuesday. Mashingaidze’s contract expired at the end of last month, but he has continued to work pending the determination of his future by the Board. The ZIFA chief executive is currently away in Botswana on business. However, the ZIFA Board have to decide whether he continues in his role or they look for another man to take over.
The issue of his contract is one of the items on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting. “Please take note that there will be a board meeting on Tuesday, 26th April, 2016,” a notice of the Board meeting read.
“The Agenda is:
(1) Prayer
(2) Chairman report
(3) Prep for Congress/date
(4) Finance Report
(5) Competitions report
(6) CEO contract
(7) Technical Director.”
Technical director Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe was suspended, pending dismissal, following a fallout with his employers. The ZIFA Board will also have to decide who handles the portfolios that were being handled by Edzai Kasinauyo who was first suspended from the game and then fired for taking football matters to court before exhausting the game’s conflict resolution organs.
Meanwhile, the country’s leading football writers will meet in Harare this morning for a consultative indaba to discuss the Soccer Stars of the Year. Only the Sports Editors of the mainstream newspapers and broadcast stations have been invited to the indaba.
The meeting will discuss the Castle Soccer Stars of the Year selection criteria and the group could recommend changes, if any are needed, to try and spice up the selection process. Over the years, some critics have questioned whether it is right for the best players to be barred from being selected simply because they picked up six yellow cards or two red cards.
