MASHONALAND Central once again emerged as the undisputed hub of Zanu PF support in the just-ended harmonised elections.
While Zanu-PF won eight of the 10 provinces in the National Assembly contests, making clean sweeps of Masvingo (26) and Matabeleland South (13), they were overwhelmingly dominant in Mash Central.
Zanu-PF amassed 335 895 votes in Mashonaland Central at an average of 18 660 per constituency and the combined opposition managed just 44 985 at an average of just 2 499 per constituency.
Thus Zanu-PF had 88, 19 percent of the total valid vote in the province, a statistic not matched by the party anywhere else in the country.
Mashonaland Central also had the most votes for Presidential candidate, Robert Gabriel Mugabe as they contributed 327 455 followed by Mashonaland East with 320 719.
Former football administrator Christopher Chitindi of Muzarabani South emerged with the election’s biggest winning margin in percentage as he won 96, 85 percent of the total votes in the constituency.

Chiredzi North’s Robert Mukwena had the biggest winning margin in number of votes as he garnered 27 591 votes more than the opposition.
Vice President, Joice Mujuru, came second with 21 789 more votes than her rivals combined in Mt Darwin West. In percentages she was fourth with a victory margin of 95, 46percent.

WINNERS WITHOUT MAJORITY VOTE
While Zanu PF candidates in Mashonaland Central were strolling to the National Assembly virtually blindfolded, there were nail-biting finishes in other constituencies with 19 winning but without a majority of the votes.
MDC-T candidate Thabitha Khumalo leads this list of those winners who failed to garner a majority of valid votes and would have faced a run-off had it been in the Presidential race where the winner needed 50 percent plus one vote to be declared winner.
The outspoken Khumalo won the Bulawayo East constituency with just 37, 46 percent (4560) of the valid vote as she beat former Education, Sport, Arts and Culture minister David Coltart of MDC (4540) by just 20 votes.
