MASHONALAND Squash will hold its first event since the Covid-19 disruption after lining up a two-day tournament at the Nomads Squash Club in Harare beginning today.

The event, which features a women’s open tournament and a men’s above 35, will start this Friday afternoon and end tomorrow.

Mashonaland Squash secretary Nishyto Munyoro said prizes will be presented to the top five finishers in both events.

“This is our first event since the Covid-19 pandemic and we are really looking forward to squash getting back to its healthy condition.

“We have deliberately listed the ladies’ open category in order to promote and improve the quality of squash among women and we also targeted the seniors in men because these guys need recognition.

“Most of the clubs had suffered the brunt of Covid-19 and some are still struggling to get back to their feet. Sponsors had also flown away. So, it’s about rekindling the interest and we are hoping to have as many tournaments as possible,” said Munyoro.

The tournament was organised by NM Sports Professionals and is being sponsored by Electrosales Hardware.

The event kicks off at 4 pm and ends at 7 pm today and then resumes tomorrow from 8 am to 1 pm.
