THOUSANDS of people, including relatives, members of the Sanyati and Mashonaland West province community, thronged the Matemadanda homestead on Thursday to bid farewell to national hero Ambassador Victor Matemadanda.

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo, represented by provincial secretary Mr Josphat Jaji, presided over the official Government programme, leading to the body being airlifted back to Charles Gumbo Barracks.

He described the national hero as an honest and steadfast leader and hailed him for promoting the virtues of unity and hard work.

Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka implored people to emulate the virtues of honesty, steadfastness and patriotism demonstrated by the late Ambassador to Mozambique.

His daughters, Patience and Teresa, said Amb Matemadanda taught them the value of education and production on the land.

His brother, Mr Willie Bhushmani, said Amb Matemadanda was the glue that bound the family together.

The body of the national hero has since returned to Harare, where it will lie in state at his Mt Pleasant Heights home before his interment at the National Heroes Acre tomorrow.
