Mashonaland West Province has stepped up preparations to host the 23rd ZANU PF National People’s Conference, with organisers expressing confidence that the province is ready for the high-profile political gathering.
The conference is scheduled to run from October 12 to 17 at the Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT). Groundwork has already begun following a provincial preparatory meeting that mapped out timelines and key responsibilities.
The 22nd edition of the conference was held in Mutare last year.
Addressing a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting at CUT on Sunday, Zanu PF provincial chairperson, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, said the province was fully prepared to host the annual event.
“We are happy and ready to host this year’s National People’s Conference from October 12 to 17. We resolved to use CUT as our venue because it has all the necessary amenities. Preparations are already underway, with the provincial committee and various sub-committees now in place,” she said.
Cde Mliswa-Chikoka said that the province would work closely with relevant Government ministries to ensure the success of the conference.
A motion to appoint the National Resource Mobilisation Committee chairperson, Cde Philip Chiyangwa, to lead the provincial preparations was moved by Politburo member and Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi.
The motion was seconded by Central Committee member and Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Marian Chombo.
Several sub-committees—responsible for resource mobilisation, logistics, transport, housing and accommodation, have since begun their work ahead of the conference.
The party’s national team is expected to visit the venue this Thursday to assess the province’s state of preparedness.
“This means everyone has to play their part in mobilisation and preparations. As Mashonaland West, we are fortunate that the national resource mobilisation chairperson, Cde (Phillip) Chiyangwa, hails from this province,” said Cde Mliswa-Chikoka.
Meanwhile, Cde Ziyambi commended the province for its active participation in consultations on the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB-3).
“We witnessed massive attendance during the CAB-3 consultations in Mashonaland West, complemented by numerous written submissions that have since been forwarded to Parliament,” he said.
