Sports Reporter

IS this the big game changer in social football?

Mashwede are forming a social football club and it could be one of the biggest things to happen in this thriving community which attracts thousands of players, and fans, every weekend.

The club will be called Mashwede FC.

“Those interested in joining Mashwede FC, you are invited to a meeting on Saturday (tomorrow), 10th of September, 2022,” read a notice from the club.

The meeting will be held at the Mashwede Big Tent near the pool gazebo.

Mashwede has become the place to go for the capital’s revellers with its Sunday events the best, in terms of patronage, in Harare.

“I think this is a game-changer,” said an official with a local social football club, who chose not to be named.

“This is a big player, which has shown interest in our league, and it will shake the social football scene.

“Remember, Mashwede already have interest in sport in this country, starting from their sponsorship of the schools’ Under-17 tournament, back in the years.

“They also came up with their marathon, which was quite a huge success, and attracted our England-based soccer star, Marvelous Nakamba.

“These guys are serious and when they come in they are always determined to make a big difference and we don’t expect anything less.”

He added:

“There will be a lot of players, on the social soccer scene, who would want to be associated with Mashwede and be part of the team and we are likely to see scores of individuals turning up for the meeting.

“This is good for social soccer and, with such interest, and investment, it can only grow and get better and better.

“The train is moving and it’s time for people to come on board otherwise they will be left behind.”
