Masike collaborates with foreign acts, takes book tour to Vic Falls

SEASONED mbira musician-cum-author, Hope Masike, toured Victoria Falls for the first time last week to promote her book titled “Die With Me”.

Masike is working on a collaboration with Zambian musicians, Mr Okito on percussion, and Sir Jones Kabanga on guitar.

For the past few months, she has been on the road promoting her work.

“My latest book titled ‘Die With Me’ was published this year in July.

“It has been performing very well, with many people buying it to discover what horror poetry could look like.

“It’s been a fun-filled journey, promoting it across the country on my first-ever book tour.

“I have taken the book to six provinces so far and, as we end the year, I am happy to say the book has been doing well.

“My last book tour event was last week Thursday in Vic Falls and it was my very first time performing in Vic Falls.”

Masike has collaborated with a German pianist, Andreas Kern.

The two did a song Ave Maria together under a project aptly called Piano meets the Mbira.

“The public relations officer and cultural attachè of the German Embassy in Zimbabwe, Ms Katrin Simone, happened to be at one of my concerts in Harare, she enjoyed it very much and had a collaboration idea of fusing Mbira with Piano.

“She had already worked with an amazing German pianist called Andreas Kern and so, once the Embassy got us to meet and experiment, the rest was history.

“As is the format of Piano meets Mbira, we are collaborating with local Zambian musicians, Mr Okito on percussion and Sir Jones Kabanga on guitar.

“People can expect a unique collaboration.”
