DSTV Rangers coach Ikabot Masocha believes his side will pull through the difficult times they have been going through after watching the team dismiss Seven Flames 2-0 on Saturday at Old Hararians.
Rangers had a bad start to their campaign in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league and spent most of the past weeks sitting second-from-bottom of the table before they moved a place up in Week Nine when they beat Royal Classics.
Saturday’s victory is their second consecutive win and comes as a major boost for the team as they moved five places up from 11th position.
And, for a team that began its quest for success on a wrong foot, it may be a sign of good days to come.
And yesterday Masocha, who took over from Elvis “Chuchu” Chiweshe last week and has been mandated to ensure that the team finishes on a respectable position, said there was light at the end of the tunnel.
“I just want DStv to be on a respectable position. The gap between us and Bindura United is a huge gap, we would not really pressurise the team to challenge for the championship.
“But if the opportunity comes, why not, but it’s not like a priority right now.
“I am confident, even before I agreed to join the boys I said to the executive members who was at the meeting I could promise them that I would get this team to where it belongs, a respectable position.
“I was honest with them and said it would be too ambitious to challenge for the championship, let’s come out of the murky waters first,” said Masocha.
Masocha hailed his charges for a good game on Saturday and said they surpassed his expectations.
“I think the boys played well above expectations. I wasn’t really expecting them to perform so well but, however, they proved to me, in the little time that we had to prepare especially on the tactical side, they can respond very well.
“It was a good performance but going forward I think there is a lot of work that needs to be done in terms of physical fitness of the players,” said Masocha.
Rangers got their first goal from Regis Dongo in the 22nd minute and Kudakwashe Manuwere converted a penalty in the 76th minute after Dongo was brought down inside the box.
