ZANU PF’S newly co-opted Central Committee member Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei has pledged over US$3 million towards a comprehensive empowerment programme for party structures in Harare Province.

The massive injection of resources, announced at a Zone 6 inter-district meeting at Rufaro Stadium, is aimed at galvanising support and attracting new members, particularly the youth.

The package includes 480 solar-powered boreholes, 95 000 food hampers valued at US$1.7 million, US$1.6 million in direct empowerment for party members and numerous scholarships for students across the province.

Mr Obey Chimuka of Fossil also donated 200 wheelchairs and 18 truckloads of cement towards the construction of the new party provincial office.

The Zone 6 meeting, attended by Politburo members, Central Committee members, and other senior officials, marked the completion of Harare province’s inter-district meetings, which have drawn thousands of party members.

Harare provincial chairman, Cde Godwills Masimirembwa, directly linked Cde Tagwirei’s involvement to a surge in attendance at party meetings.

“We want to give our thanks to Central Committee member Cde Tagwirei for coming up with such initiatives,” said Cde Masimirembwa.

“We used to have these meetings but with fewer numbers. Cde Tagwirei has brought aura to the province. Since his cooption, the province will never be the same again.”

Masimirembwa emphasised the strategic importance of the donations, noting their appeal to  younger people.

“We are happy to see a new generation coming to our meetings. What it means is that Dr Tagwirei is now coming with new strategies which attract youth, our first-time voters.”

During his address, which included a report on the state of the economy and the achievements of President Mnangagwa, Dr Tagwirei detailed the direct financial support.

He announced that each wing in Zone 6 — the youth, main wing, war veterans and women’s league — would receive US$112 500 as a revolving fund. An additional US$50 000 revolving fund was earmarked for the party’s disabled members in the zone.

The event also served as a platform to reinforce the party’s national mobilisation strategy.

ZANU PF political commissar Cde Munyaradzi Machacha announced the party is actively engaged in cell data capturing as part of its “fishers of men” initiative.

“We are embarking on a number of mobilisation strategies to ensure no one is left behind. Our aim is to fish for first-time voters,” said Cde Machacha.

He urged members to welcome returnees and set a recruitment target.

“We expect every party member to recruit at least one member per year. This is meant to ensure ZANU PF remains formidable in the next elections.”

Cde Machacha told the Harare province to send all new members to the Chitepo School of Ideology to understand the party’s values and virtues.
