Hundreds of informal traders at the Magaba Complex in Mbare have been left counting losses after a massive inferno gutted the commercial hub in the early hours of this Friday morning.
The fire, which reportedly broke out at around 1:00 AM, continued to rage for over five hours as municipal fire crews struggled to bring the flames under control.
The Harare City Council Fire Brigade deployed three fire tenders to the scene immediately following the emergency call.

“Happening now… A huge fire has broken out at Magaba Complex in Mbare,” reads part of the statement issued by Harare City Council at 1am.
“Our fire fighters promptly responded when the call was made and they are currently working to put the raging inferno under control. We urge residents to exercise extreme caution around the affected area.”
To prevent a critical exhaustion of resources, the Emergency Help Group intervened by providing a fleet of water tankers.

“To avoid a situation where our fire tenders have to be driven back to the fire station to fetch more water, the Emergency Help Group provided tankers of water.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
