A masterplan for Harare Metropolitan Province, which is now 80 percent complete, is expected to guide local authorities and private developers on areas where industrial hubs, housing and recreational facilities should be constructed.
The master plan will also indicate that Harare City Council’s role will largely be that of providing services.
Speaking during a Press conference organised by Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province Oliver Chidawu yesterday, the Provincial Development Coordinator Mr Tafadzwa Muguti said work on the masterplan was progressing well.
“Right now we have many shopping centres which are in the wrong places, and many homes which are sitting on sewer plants,” he said.
Mr Muguti said the masterplan will also assist investors who may be keen to invest in housing developments, stadiums and industrial parks.
In the next few days, the Government will be producing a public list of every piece of land within Harare Province, which is deemed illegal.
“By Monday next week, we are going to publish the full authorised list to the public of all those licensed land developers and where they have been permitted to develop,” he said.
“We are encouraging residents to stop buying land without checking with provincial Government structures and local authorities,” said Mr Muguti.
He said Government will not regularise areas where residents knowingly participated in illegal deals. Only special cases would be regularised.
