Township, Governor Masuku said Moyo was not a liability but had lived to inspire many youths in her province.
“The Moyo family has to understand that Freedom did not only belong to them but was part of the whole Matabeleland South province. The young man was an asset to the country,” said Governor Masuku.
She said she was pained by Moyo’s death because youngsters that had potential to develop the country and continue fighting for its sovereignty were dying.
“Ngibuhlungu ngokuhamba kwabantu abatsha. Nxa besifa kanje lathi abadala siyazibuza ukuthi salwelani pho empini.
“Freedom was one of the youngsters that proved Zimbabwe is very fertile as far as human resource and skill is concerned. I wish all youths in this country could be inspired by his works, perseverance in developing this country and our province,” said Governor Masuku.
In an interview on the sidelines, the Matabeleland South Zanu-PF provincial youth chairman Cde Washington Nkomo said the youths in his province had lost a brother and an activist who helped people all his life.
“Freedom was my childhood friend and I remember how he used to go around this area teaching people about HIV and Aids. He was also interested in arts and was one of the people who developed Shashe Boys and Young Generation drama groups that were founded in 1989,” said Cde Nkomo.
“He worked as a journalist for a long time and was promoted to Current Affairs editor because he was hard working.”
Mr Agent Moyo, Freedom’s brother and family spokesperson said he was overwhelmed by the response the family got from politicians, friends, and journalists. “We have been receiving condolence messages from all over and we appreciate this as a family. MaFree will be buried tomorrow and his body is already at Esigodini Hospital mortuary,” said Mr Moyo.
Moyo will be buried today at Emkhayeni Cemetery in Esigodini at 10am.
He is survived by four children.
