Masvingo boxing breaks new ground

MASVINGO Boxing Federation have broken new ground by holding the first boxing tournament for schools in a rural area. The tournament was held at Chinorumba High School in Zaka District over the weekend.

Spectators were entertained by more than 40 boxing bouts on cards with boxers ranging from pin-weight up to middle-weight category.

Boxers were drawn from hosts Chinorumba, Mutsambwa and Tapudzai High Schools from Zaka, Terry Goss, Mufakose, Mutirikwi and Hippo Valley High Schools from Chiredzi District as well as Masuture Baptist High School of Mwenezi District. The tournament was being used as a platform to build a provincial team for 2016 National Youth Games.

The recent achievements of Charles Manyuchi, a product of Masvingo Province, appears to have inspired most young boxers.
