Masvingo dams now 100 percent full

percent full.
The gains in dam water levels have brought relief to communities surviving on several small holder irrigation schemes across the province.

Bangala Dam in Nyikavanhu communal lands is now 102 percent full after water levels in the dam had in December last year dropped to 6,6 percent.
Chivake dam in Bikita is now 100 percent full from about four percent last year.

Manjirenji Dam, which is the lifeline for sugar cane farmers at Mkwasine estates in Chiredzi, is now at 41 percent full up from about seven percent full in December last year.

Siya Dam in Bikita, which was at 2,7 percent full last December, is now 27 percent full while Bindamombe dam is now 22,2 percent full up from 9,7 percent at the beginning of the year.

However, Lake Mutirikwi had risen marginally to 16, 3 percent up from 13, 9 percent at the beginning of this year.

Zinwa spokesperson Mr Tsungirirai Shoriwa attributed the dam increases to the heavy rains which fell across the province recently.

“Obviously the increase in water levels has brought some kind of relief to communities who survive on irrigation in Masvingo where dam water levels had drastically gone down by the end of last year and we hope the rains will continue to fall until most of the dams get significant inflows,’’ he said.
