in the city on Friday to save himself from a crowd after being involved in a street brawl over a girlfriend.
Mr Mharadza allegedly joined in a scuffle between his wife Memory and his girlfriend Ms Silibaziso Ndebele that attracted a sizeable crowd. He manhandled his wife to enable Ms Ndebele to flee to safety.
Curious onlookers jostled to catch the drama which happened in the Masvingo Central Business District.
Soon after the girlfriend fled from the scene, Mr Mharadza dashed into a nearby furniture shop and hid in a warehouse after realising the crowd was turning against him.
He emerged from the shop after the crowd had dispersed and went away in an MDC-T councillor’s vehicle.
Family sources yesterday said Mr Mharadza separated with his wife in the wake of the nasty brawl. The two married in 2010 under Chapter 5:11 of the Marriages Act.
The sources alleged that Mr Mharadza’s adulterous relationship with Ms Ndebele had been going on for years and was rocking his marriage. Mr Mharadza, who has two children with his wife, yesterday accused her of overreacting and denied that they had separated. He claimed that Ms Ndebele, a nurse at Chishave Clinic in Chivi district, was his ex-girlfriend.
“My wife just overreacted after seeing me talking to Ms Ndebele whom I must admit is my ex-lover,” said Mr Mharadza.
“My wife knew that I was once in love with Ms Ndebele and when she saw us together in the city centre she just overreacted and confronted her resulting in a fight. I must admit that I am no longer in love with Ms Ndebele, but as an MP I must be accessible to everyone. Even yourself, don’t you talk to your ex-girlfriends.”
Mr Mharadza admitted to have married his wife in 2010 under Chapter 5:11 of the Marriages Act.
“We married in 2010 and were blessed with two children and what happened on Friday was just a minor incident,” he said.
“I am no longer in love with Ms Ndebele. I last dated her before I got married.”
Mr Mharadza also defended his move to join in the scuffle “to restrain my wife”.
“I was not in any way trying to help her (Ms Ndebele) to get away from being beaten, but the only logical thing that I could do was to restrain my wife because she is the only person whom I have control over,” he said.
Mrs Mharadza is now staying with her parents near Alvord Training Centre in Zimuto communal lands.
Several MDC-T leaders, including party leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, have of late been involved in messy relationships with women.
Mr Tsvangirai has left the nation spell bound by his flirtation with several women whom he either ill treats or unceremoniously dumps after sexual escapades.
