Masvingo police recover 102 mbanje plants

Police in Masvingo have recovered 102 plants of mbanje after swooping on a villager who was allegedly growing the illegal herb on the banks of Mutirikwi River.

Police arrested Ekem Chari (37) of Tevera Village under Chief Murinye after receiving a tip off that he was growing marijuana along the banks of Mutirikwi River.

Masvingo province Acting Provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Lorraine Ndlovu Chanakira said the mbanje plants measured between 50 and 150cm.

“The plants were taken by police and will be used in court as exhibits,” she said.

Three other villagers were arrested at Dikitiki Business Centre under Chief Murinye after being found with mbanje twists either on sale in their shops or for their own use.

Police in Masvingo have vowed to continue the ongoing crackdown against drug and substance abuse.
