George Maponga in Masvingo
Residents in Mucheke, Masvingo, have hailed the Government and its partners for building Chesvingo Safe Market, which they say is a game changer for small-scale women and young traders.
The market was built by the Government with funding from the African Development Bank and other partners.
The first-of-its-kind market, which benefited 80 Masvingo City women and youths, is a one-stop-shop as it has a pre-school, a centre for survivors of gender-based violence and a police station.
Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Minister Monica Mutsvangwa commissioned the market last Friday.
Mrs Hungwe of Mucheke F who is now selling her wares at the market paid tribute to the Government and its partners for building the centre.
“We are very happy because this new market is handy. I can sell my wares here and look after my grandchildren,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Ms Shiela Tapfumangwe of Yeukai Suburb said the new market is a game changer in boosting women and youths’ income.
She implored the Government to open more such centres and transform the lives of youths and women who largely remain economically marginalised.
