The city recently completed crafting its 10-year master plan which is now awaiting approval by Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo.
Central to the master plan are several projects to build road links as part of efforts to de-congest the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway.
Masvingo town clerk Mr Adolph Gusha confirmed that his council would soon formally approach the South African Department of Trade and Industry over the grant. He said the exact amount of the grant required was still being worked out.
“We are still working on the exact amount of money that we require as a grant from the South African government’s Department of Trade and Industry but we will formally request for the grant once Minister Chombo has approved our 10-year master plan.
“Basically the purpose of the grant,” said Mr Gusha.
The Masvingo town clerk said in addition to the priority list in the city’s master plan was the construction of a road link directly connecting the sprawling Mucheke suburb and the city. A similar road is also set to be constructed to link Rujeko suburb with the city.
