Masvingo sweep Kiglon aside

HOSTS Masvingo United put aside their in-house problems, centred on non-payment of wages, to condemn visitors Kiglon to their second loss of the season in this Castle Lager Premiership before a bumper crowd at Mucheke yesterday.
Yuna Yuna continued with their purple patch in the branded Premiership with a superb performance as they continued their undefeated streak in the top-flight league.
The city of Masvingo yesterday reverberated to the echoes of the Yuna Yuna anthem as the delirious fans celebrated a fine performance by their local team.
Masvingo United players have been boycotting training sessions over unpaid salaries and wages and coach Luke Masomere has hinted that he might quit.
The visitors were the first to draw first blood in the15th minute from a free kick that was converted by Witness Nyamutsaka.
Masvingo United, with a virtually new-look line-up that included former Bosso goalkeeper Wonder Peperere, weathered the storm and began to dictate the pace of the game.
The home side equalised in the 31st minute after Walter Mutanga who capitalised on a blunder by the Kiglon defenders and drilled home a low drive that beat goalkeeper Steven Chimusoro.
The goal lifted Masvingo United and Tendai “DJ Malaika” Nyamadzawo almost gave them the lead in the 43rd minute but was denied by the woodwork.
Shortly after the break, Nyamadzawo propelled the hosts into the lead after he connected a pass from skipper Pevington Zimunya.
It was a cruel blow for Kiglon given that Nyamadzawo was miles offside when he made the connection and somehow referee Robert Mugorosa allowed the goal to stand.
It’s such issues, where home teams continue to get favours, which still haunt the Premiership even after the coming on board of a sponsor.
Kiglon players protested furiously against the decision to let the goal stand.
Barely a minute later, the wasteful Johnsen Zimbabe finally remembered how to score on the day when he gave Masvingo United a two-goal cushion.
Masvingo United were solid in defence where Partson Partson had a good day.
The hosts then managed to withstand sustained pressure from the plucky visitors until the final whistle.
Masomere paid tribute to his players for the win.
