Masvingo to build new Zanu-PF provincial HQ

The ruling Zanu-PF has set up a committee to spearhead the mobilisation of resources for the construction of permanent party headquarters here.

Masvingo is one of the provinces where the ruling party does not have its own permanent offices and is using offices behind Regency Chevron Hotel that were donated to the party by hotelier Cde Eddison Zvobgo (Jnr).

The offices housing Zanu-PF headquarters in Masvingo will be built in Mucheke. Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister and Masvingo South legislator Engineer Walter Mzembi was appointed chair of the committee to mobilise resources for the new party headquarters in the province.

Eng Mzembi was appointed during a provincial co-ordinating committee meeting held at Masvingo Showgrounds over the weekend. Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chairman Cde Ezra Chadzamira confirmed that a committee had been set up to mobilise resources to build the permanent headquarters for the ruling party in the province.

”We have set up a committee today (Sunday) that will be tasked with mobilising resources for the construction of our permanent party headquarters at our stand in Mucheke suburb,” he said.

”The committee will be responsible for coming up with fundraising initiatives so that work on the permanent Zanu-PF provincial headquarters can start. We do not have a budget of the total amount of funds required to build the headquarters. It is the duty of that committee to work out those figures and report back to us.”

Cde Chadzamira said the ruling party could not continue without its own permanent offices in Masvingo, 37 years after independence. He said Masvingo was a ”one state province” dominated by the ruling party, hence it was befitting for the province to have its own permanent headquarters.

Businessman and Zanu-PF Masvingo Central legislator Cde Edmund Mhere recently donated $2 500 to the ruling party to pay council service fees for the ruling party stand in Mucheke.

Speaking ahead of last year’s ruling party’s 15th National Annual People’s Conference held at Masvingo Showgrounds, Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Dr Ignatius Chombo said Zanu-PF wanted all the 10 political provinces to have permanent ruling party headquarters.
