FORMER Premier Soccer League side Masvingo United have started this year’s journey towards promotion into the top-flight with four humiliating defeats.
Yuna Yuna hosted Eastern Stars at Mucheke Stadium in their first match and lost 0-1.
The fading Masvingo giants travelled to Gutu FC losing 1-2, before hosting Mutare City in the third in which they were thrashed 4-1 in the Zifa Eastern Region Division One League.

The Masvingo United executive responded to this poor performance by firing coach Ferdinand Mwachindalo and his replacement Joel ‘Waka Waka’ Nhumwa’s first match in office ended in a defeat 2-1 away to Ruwa United.

Yuna Yuna are now at the bottom of the log nine points behind log leaders Buffalo Juniors who at the weekend collected maximum points when they defeated Tenax at home.

Masvingo first featured in the Premier League in 2002 and at the end of the season they were relegated.
The team resurfaced in 2005 and came close to winning the title on the last day.

They were relegated for the second time in 2008 and later showed up in 2011 season but they failed to stand the heat and were relegated.
The Masvingo business community last year held a football indaba at which one of the key issues discussed was to channel their resources and energies towards bringing Premiership football to country’s oldest city.

All Masvingo Division One sides namely FC Victoria, Sethio United, Donbosco FC were disbanded in favour of a stronger Masvingo United.
The development however is not paying dividends as Masvingo United continue to lose.

In another fixture, Renco Mine travelled to Gutu FC in a match which ended 1-1 in controversial circumstances as the home side was awarded a debatable second half penalty to level matters.

Renco Mine had two of their goals, which looked legitimate, ruled offside.
