‘Masvingo war veterans fully behind ED continued leadership’

The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) in Masvingo says it fully supports the position by Zanu PF in the province that President Mnangagwa stays on beyond 2028 to see through his vision of making the country an upper middle-income society by 2030.
This follows reports in some sections of the Masvingo media where a few war veterans were quoted as saying that they were opposed to President Mnangagwa’s continued leadership beyond 2028.

ZNLWVA Masvingo provincial chair Cde Tendeukai Chinooneka said as an affiliate of the ruling party they are guided by what Zanu PF says.

He dismissed the notion that Masvingo war veterans are opposed to President Mnangagwa’s continued stay in power beyond 2028 based on the views of two or three war veterans.

“We have more than 4000 war veterans in Masvingo province and what is being said in other press reports that war veterans do not support President Mnangagwa’s continued stay in office beyond 2028 is not a true reflection of the situation on the ground,” he said.

“There are just one or two individuals who are expressing their individual opinions. The correct position is that we stand with what the party (Zanu PF ) says and here in Masvingo the ruling party has said they want President Mnangagwa to remain in power beyond 2028 and we are also guided by that,” said Cde Chinooneka.

Zanu PF Masvingo province, a ruling party stronghold, was the first to pass a resolution that President Mnangagwa remains in office beyond 2028 to give him more time to drive Zimbabwe to become an upper-middle-income society.

Other provinces have subsequently followed suit and there is now unanimity within the revolutionary party that the President must remain in office up to 2030.
