RURAL communities in Masvingo have welcomed advancements in Information Communication Technology (ICT) following the launch of community information centres in the province.
Government, through the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), launched Community Information Centres in Masvingo to ensure no one is left behind in accessing up-to-date information via the internet.
Headman Charles Dzimba from Bere village, told H-Metro that the move to develop rural areas through access to information, would largely contribute to economic development in the area.
“The facilities will facilitate research in marginalised areas, which are mostly left behind. We believe that the community will largely benefit in different sectors to contribute to a successful nation,” he said
Irene Muchemwa, a Form 4 student at Mushandike Secondary School, said the labs will accord students the opportunity to access information not available in textbooks.
“The new curriculum requires that we access different kinds of material to enhance our knowledge. We areå looking forward to more of these developments, especially in rural areas, so that rural people are not left behind.
“The world is moving towards a digital åçeconomy, which requires that people are well informed, and transfer information to different parts of the world,” she said.
