A woman died in Masvingo after answering a cell phone she had picked on the road in Mucheke suburb, police confirmed. Masvingo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Peter Zhanero said Beulah Matswange, 22, from Mwenezi District collapsed and died along Mhukahuru Street, Chesvingo in Mucheke at 1PM on Wednesday.

“I confirm receiving a report of sudden death that occurred at a house along Mhukahuru Crescent, Chesvingo in Mucheke.
“The woman was working for another woman who is a tenant at the house in question. We treat the case as sudden death and investigations to establish cause of death are underway,” he said.

Chief Insp Zhanero said the body was taken to Masvingo General Hospital mortuary for postmortem. A witness, Leticia Nicole Dube, 19, said Mhukahuru picked a lost cell phone handset on the street and brought it home.

“When she arrived home the phone rang and she answered it and seemingly talked to a man who claimed the phone was his,” said the witness.

The witness said Mhukahuru moved towards where the man she was talking to directed but after walking a few metres, she collapsed and died on the spot.

Efforts to get comment from the deceased’s employer were fruitless as she was said to have gone to the hospital for postmortem results.
