Masvingo is slowly ramping up aggregate milk production and is poised to become a major milk producer in the country with seven start-up dairy projects scattered across the province showing signs of huge potential.
Growth of the province’s dairy sector comes as the country is slowly regaining lost ground in milk production with output surging over the past few years.
At least seven start-up dairy projects that are still in their infancy are showing great promise and have already positioned Masvingo to become a major milk producer while also creating employment.
Permanent Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Masvingo Dr Addmore Pazvakavambwa says the province is on course to be a major producer of milk in the country over the next couple of years.
“The province has an infant dairy sector that is showing good signs of growth and to date, the province boasts about 7 start-ups in dairy production,” said Dr Pazvakavambwa.
“These include Mutendi, Mushagashe, Hamaruomba and Nyaningwe dairy projects in Masvingo, Gutu and Chivi respectively.”
He said more start-up dairy projects are poised to be established in other districts across Masvingo as the province seeks to leverage on its huge potential for milk production.
