TAWANDA Maswanhise is now only a goal away from recording 20-goals in all competitions this season.

Despite a brief drought in the past matches for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, the Zimbabwe international was again back to scoring over the weekend.

With 14 goals to his name in the league and five in cup competitions, he has proven he can deliver regularly and is firmly in the race for the golden boot.

Having arrived at Motherwell in August 2024, only a few outside Leicester’s academy circles knew what to expect.

Yet Maswanhise quickly showed he had more than raw pace, but instinct for goals.

His recent strike against St Mirren, winning and scoring a penalty, is a perfect example of his self-driven impact.

Whether cutting in from the left wing or drifting centrally, he adapts to his positioning to exploit gaps, showing versatility.

“Every time I step onto the pitch, I remind myself that goals change games,” Maswnhise told Zimpapers Sports Hub.

“In Scotland, you don’t get many chances, so when one comes, you have to make it count.”

Maswanhise has not only made himself a name to reckon with in Scotland but also for the Zimbabwe national football team.

And he believes everything starts at club level, and taking responsibilities is now part of his game.

“Winning the penalty and then converting it — that’s the kind of responsibility I enjoy. It shows I can create the moment and finish it myself,” he said.

If he can score something near 30 in one season, he is a sure bet to make a big move after this season.

In the mid-season, he had already been linked with a move to rivals Celtic and other European clubs, but a move was not sanctioned.

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou has been clear that they will not be able to keep the forward forever.

But for now, he is expected to make history, and for every goal he scores, a new milestone.
