TAWANDA Maswanhise stole the spotlight in Scotland while Tinotenda Kadewere finally stepped onto the pitch in Greece as Zimbabwe’s foreign legion turned out for their clubs over the weekend.
Maswanhise fired his first Scottish Premiership goal for Motherwell in their 3-3 draw with Hearts, thumping home in the 49th minute to double his side’s lead.
The 21-year-old winger has now bagged five goals across all competitions this season, having already lit up the League Cup.
Kadewere, meanwhile, had to settle for a brief cameo. The Warriors striker made his league bow for Aris Thessaloniki in the 88th minute of a 2-0 win over Volos, his first appearance since joining from Nantes last month.
In England, Marshall Munetsi’s Wolves slumped 1-0 to Bournemouth in the Premier League. Munetsi worked hard, but his side never recovered from Toti Gomes’ red card early in the second half. Tawanda Chirewa was once again left out of the squad.
In the Championship, teenager Sean Fusire got minutes late on as Sheffield Wednesday drew 2-2 with Wrexham. He has now featured in all three league games this term.
League One saw mixed fortunes for the Zimbabweans. Marvelous Nakamba was missing again as Luton Town went down 1-0 to Cardiff City.
Brendan Galloway, wearing the captain’s armband for Plymouth Argyle, helped his side beat Blackpool 1-0 before being withdrawn with a calf issue. Tivonge Rushesha did not feature for Reading against Wycombe.
On the continent, Bill Antonio came on for KV Mechelen but couldn’t stop a 2-1 defeat to Antwerp in Belgium.
In Denmark, Munashe Garananga watched from the bench as FC Copenhagen drew 1-1 with OB.
In the United States, Teenage Hadebe remained an unused substitute in FC Cincinnati’s 1-0 loss to New York City.
The big off-field move came in England’s National League, where Admiral Muskwe signed for Morecambe after ending his stint with Finnish side IFK Mariehamn. The club hailed him as a coup:
“Morecambe Football Club is thrilled to announce the acquisition of Admiral Muskwe. He arrives at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium with a wealth of experience in the EFL and at international level with Zimbabwe.” Head coach Ashvir Singh Johal was equally excited.
“He has a lot of experience in the EFL; he’s played in the Championship. Admiral is a very, very hard-working striker who, in the box, is very confident at finishing from a variety of situations. We think he is going to be a big success at Morecambe, and he is someone fans are going to be really excited to see.”
Muskwe is expected to make his debut against Woking once clearance comes through. — Sports Reporter/Online
