President Mugabe, who is also the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, has indicated that elections will be held during the first quarter of next year.
Sport and Recreation Commission’s director of sports development, Joseph Muchechetere, said in the event of elections being held in April, the games will be postponed to a later date.
“It’s something that we have to seriously consider as stakeholders so that as we plan, we have alternative dates in the event we have elections,” said Muchechetere.
Hwange Colliery Company engineer Victor Rakabopa is the chief executive officer of the Local Organising Committee which also has Matabeleland North Governor and Resident Minister, Thokozile Mathuthu, as the patron.
The games were inaugurated in 2008 with Bulawayo playing host and last year they were held in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Province.
