MATABELELAND North, the largest province by area in Zimbabwe, has highlighted infrastructure development—particularly in housing—as a significant investment opportunity, with districts across the province aiming to improve accommodation facilities.
The province is also looking to boost MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism, with conference facilities proposed by both rural and urban councils.
Sitting on vast mineral reserves, Matabeleland North offers promising opportunities in mining and mineral value addition. Other key sectors for investment include tourism, agriculture, and agro-processing.
The energy sector, especially solar power, has also been identified as a potential area for growth.
Value addition in timber presents another major opportunity, as local timber is currently processed in Harare, creating a need to establish processing plants within the province.
On eco-tourism and the conservation economy, Ms Tambudzai Mpukuta noted that Zimparks owns about 19,000 square kilometers of land in Matabeleland North, home to more than 150 species of mammals and birds, positioning the province as an ideal investment destination.
Additional opportunities include wildlife filming, game farming, hunting, safari tours, luxury camps, and eco-friendly lodges.
Ms Mpukuta also stated that with the rise in tourism visitors, there is growing demand for quality accommodation and exclusive safari experiences in the province.
