Mat South clubs clash in Heroes’ Cup semis

FOUR soccer teams are set to lock horns in the Matabeleland South Heroes Cup semi-finals at Gwanda’s Pelandaba Stadium this Sunday .
Winners of the semi-finals will meet for the finals at the same venue on Heroes Day.Prison FC will face Gwanda United. The warders topped Pool A while Gwanda United were Pool B runners up.

Gwanda Town were Pool B winners and will take on Unicem who finished second in the other group.

The tournament started with 10 teams which were divided into two pools of five teams that played in a round robin format.

Nkosilathi Ncube, the Zifa Matabeleland South chairman, said that he was expecting a very tight contest in the semi-finals, given the level of competition exhibited by the teams.

“With the level of competition showcased by the teams in the earlier stages of the tournament, I am convinced that it is going to be a tightly contested semi-finals this coming Sunday,” said Ncube.

The inaugural tournament is sponsored by Ward Nine Councillor Thabani Moyo through his Tee and Pee General Dealers’ chain of shops.
Ncube said he was seeking partners so he could increase the prizemoney.

“We are appealing to the corporate world and any well wishers who would like to sponsor or assist with the prizemoney to come forward,” said Ncube.
