ZIFA Matabeleland South Division Two league is set to start on April 25 with 22 teams registered, an official has confirmed. Zifa Matabeleland South Division Two chairman, Nkosilathi Ncube said they registered teams in two pools. “The league is starting next week and all teams are ready for their games. Pool A has 12 teams from Gwanda town and mines around the town. Pool B will have 10 teams mainly coming from Beitbridge town and areas around the border town. We’ve decided to have two pools in order to minimise travel expenses for the teams,” said Ncube.
He said they have met with the executives from area zones in the province and agreed that games in area zones will be run by their executives.
“After having a meeting we agreed that all teams will be given a chance to play against other teams from their zones. This is done in an effort to assist small teams who do not have the capacity to finance travel for fixtures that are far,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ncube said a local councillor, Thulani Moyo will bankroll an Independence Trophy that will be played tomorrow.
“The councillor has sponsored the Independence Trophy set for April 18. Jessiee Mine FC and Habana FC will face each other at Phelandaba Stadium. We’re yet to secure prize money for the tournament though,” Ncube said.
