RURAL Development, Preservation and Promotion of Culture and Heritage Minister Cde Abedinico Ncube last week presented 10 wheelchairs to Gwanda Provincial Hospital as part of efforts to assist patients with assistive devices.
He also presented five wheel chairs to Manama District Hospital. Addressing Gwanda Provincial Hospital staff, Government officials and members of the Joint Operations Command, Cde Ncube thanked World Vision for the donation, saying it will go a long way in complementing Government’s efforts in equipping hospitals.
“I would like to thank World Vision for this profound donation of wheelchairs to our hospitals.
“When I sourced this donation, I had Manama Hospital in mind but we decided that Gwanda gets 10 and Manama five wheelchairs,” he said.
Cde Ncube took the opportunity to appeal to well-wishers and other non-governmental organisations to emulate World Vision by donating ambulances to Gwanda Provincial Hospital.
“I would like to appeal to other NGOs, corporate organisations and well-wishers to donate ambulances to Gwanda Hospital.
“I realise the current fleet is too old making it very difficult to transport our patients to referral hospitals,” Cde Ncube said.
Accepting the donation, Matabeleland South provincial medical director Dr Abel Maponga said the hospital will ensure that the donation is put to good use.
In 2013 Cde Ncube donated linen to Gwanda Provincial Hospital and in June this year he also donated an assortment of groceries to the hospital.
