Mat South police to deploy more cops

Provincial police spokesman Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe said more people had started frequenting these border towns.
He said they were working with other stakeholders to deal with criminals at these ports of entry.
“Experience has shown that during the festive season some criminal vices such as touts, dealers and conmen take advantage of this period to commit crimes, mainly targeting unsuspecting travellers.
“We have noted with concern the rate at which travellers’ safety is being compromised at our border posts by these people and hence the need to intervene.
“I want to strongly warn them that we will not give them any breathing space. We will eliminate them.”
He said the operation would also deal with border jumpers.
“More police officers have been deployed to most problem areas and our thrust this festive season is to ensure that our travellers are safe.”
Inspector Dzirutwe warned motorists against parking their cars at secluded places as they risked being mugged and robbed by carjackers along the major highways.
“Cases of highway robberies along the country’s major highways continue to rise and a number of unsuspecting motorists have fallen prey to the armed robbers.
“We are urging motorists to always abide by the road regulations and also be very particular with their safety,” he said.
He said the police would also conduct another operation targeting stock theft code-named “Nyama yabvepi”.
Inspector Dzirutwe said police had started conducting routine patrols in residential areas urging people to be on the lookout for criminals.
