ZANU-PF Matabeleland South province is revelling in glory after scooping the first prize for being the best-run province at the party’s recent National People’s Conference held in Chinhoyi. The province won $15,000 prize money and a trophy for trouncing opposition parties in all the 13 National Assembly seats in the July 31 elections.
Zanu-PF provincial spokesperson Cde Malach Nkomo told journalists in Gwanda on Monday that the province was excited for being recognised as the party’s cream.
He said:
“It was befitting at the conference for us to win this trophy. We came first and we are so grateful.
“However, the honour does not mean we should relax. We will do more and we assure you that as Matabeleland South that we will work even harder.”
He said the provincial coordinating committee was yet to decide how the $15,000 would be utilised.
Cde Nkomo said the party’s victory was a response to President Mugabe’s advice on ensuring that there was no imposition of candidates but following the will of the people.
“That gave us so much power, energy and courage. We all worked so hard to win the elections and we conquered the enemy,” he said adding: “It was not surprising that we took all the 13 parliamentary seats.”
Cde Nkomo said Zanu-PF will deliver and fulfil all promises it made in the party’s manifesto.
“Our victory as Zanu-PF means the end to MDCs. We will make sure that MDCs never come back in this province. We will make sure people are happy by fulfilling their needs,” he said.
Cde Nkomo said the province intended to carry out an induction exercise for its newly-elected provincial executive members so as to ensure the consolidation of the party’s strength in the province.
The province, he said, will come up with a journal that would outline party activities in the province.
“All activities carried out by the Members of Parliament in the province would be highlighted in the journal.
“We want to run a very effective party. Come 2018, we will not do any campaigning because the work on the ground would on its own show our commitment towards developing our province and the country as a whole,” said Cde Nkomo.
Provincial secretary for administration Cde William Dhewa said the party’s constitution was supreme and everything they will do would be done in accordance with the constitution to reduce conflict among party members.
He said Zanu-PF would ensure it continued having a firm stand in the province through working together.
Cde Dhewa said the province benefited a lot out of the just-ended conference in Chinhoyi and said party members realised how Zim Asset outlined the support the Government would give to Matabeleland South in the rehabilitation of irrigation schemes, development of new irrigation schemes and also backing of livestock production.
