IN line with Government’s drive to ease transport challenges facing civil servants countrywide, Matabeleland North Province yesterday received five buses for deployment in five districts.
Last week, Vice-President Kembo Mohadi commissioned 55 Public Service Commission (PSC) buses procured by Government to improve transport for civil servants across the country.
He commissioned the buses on the sidelines of the PSC Retirement Conference 2026.
The fleet is expected to strengthen transportation for public servants, particularly those who face difficulties commuting to and from work, while improving punctuality and service delivery.
Receiving the five buses, Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo said the vehicles would enhance efficiency, productivity and service delivery.
The buses will be distributed to Tsholotsho, Bubi, Umguza, Lupane and Nkayi districts. The handover ceremony was held at Elangeni Training Centre in Bulawayo yesterday. “These buses, which will be allocated to Tsholotsho, Bubi, Umguza, Lupane and Nkayi Districts are a clear demonstration of the Government’s continued commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of public servants, particularly those serving in our districts. The provision of these buses will assist in addressing transportation challenges and contribute towards improved efficiency, productivity and service delivery,” said Minister Moyo.
He urged the relevant authorities to ensure the buses are properly managed, maintained and used for their intended purpose for the benefit of public servants.
“On behalf of Government and the people of Matabeleland North Province, I wish to express our sincere gratitude to His Excellency Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, for the generous gesture and his continued commitment to the welfare of public servants,” he said.
Government earlier this year approved the procurement of 128 buses as part of efforts to address transport challenges affecting its workforce. To date, 55 buses have been procured for deployment across the country.
Vice-President Mohadi’s commissioning of the buses marked another step in Government’s efforts to improve working conditions for public servants and enhance efficiency within the public service.
The dedicated transport is expected to ease the daily commuting burden on workers who rely on public transport while supporting Government’s broader drive to improve public service delivery.
