Matabeleland South PA Mpofu to be buried today

Mpofu succumbed to injuries he sustained in an accident last week.
Family spokesperson and son Mr Bukhosi Mpofu confirmed the date of his father’s burial.
“We are going to bury our father tomorrow at Lady Stanley Cemetery. There will be a funeral service at Central Brethren-in-Christ Church along Fort Street and

Masotsha Ndlovu Avenue at 10am,” said Mr Mpofu.
Messages of condolence continued to pour in from political leaders and members of the public.
In a statement, Zanu-PF National Chairman,  Simon Khaya Moyo, bemoaned the death of Mpofu and described him as a true son of the soil. “He was indeed an illustrious PA and a focused senior civil servant. His passing on is a devastating blow to Matabeleland South for his commitment to matters associated with development and the welfare of the people was unquestionable,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

He said Mpofu led from the front on land utilisation and was a disciple of indigenisation and the economic empowerment programme.
“We mourn with the rest of the Mpofu family and we will                miss his leadership qualities and wisdom,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.
Governor and Resident Minister for Matabeleland South Angeline Masuku, who worked closely with Mpofu, described him as a hard worker, who diligently worked for the province.

In an interview Governor Masuku said she had lost not only a committed colleague, but also a leader who had served the people with honour.
“It is sad that we have lost Mpofu and it pains me because he was a committed man. I worked with him from the time I assumed the office of Governor for Matabeleland South,” said Governor Masuku.

She said Mpofu worked hard to see that the province progressed in different areas.
“He was always on his feet making sure that there was progress in our province. May the Mpofu family be comforted and we hope that they understand that we are also mourning with them,” said Governor Masuku.

Mpofu was born on 29 September, 1954 in Fort Rixon, Insiza District, where he did his lower primary education.
He went to Wanezi Mission where he completed his Standard Six and proceeded to Mtshabezi Mission for a certificate in education.
Mpofu then went to Doyana area where he married his wife, Nomzamo in 1975.

From that time he worked at David Livingstone Primary School as a teacher.
After independence, Mpofu continued serving as a teacher in primary schools that include Matshayisikhova in Luveve and Fusi.
He then furthered his education and attained a Bachelors of Education at the University of Zimbabwe in 1987. Mpofu did not waste time as he completed a Masters in Education Administration in 1989.

He was then promoted to education officer, staffing officer, and regional director before becoming the Provincial Administrator for Matabeleland South.
Mpofu was also a board member for the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and a referees’ assessor for the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa).
Mpofu is survived by  wife Nomzamo and eight children. Mourners are gathered at Number 23 Holland Road in Waterford.
