John Shoko, the Bulawayo Pool League fixtures secretary who is part of the organising team said the seven women are Shylet Musono (Exchange), Daphne Agere and Susan Chizema (both Raylton), Precious Mikazhu and Noma Moyo (both ONE), Rebecca Moyo (Kings) and Noma Manguni (Skittle).
“We do not have many women in our association as most of them register but do not come for tournaments. We are going to be lenient and allow even those that are not registered to participate at this tournament.
“If the women feel they can challenge their male counterparts, we will not prevent them from taking them head on,” Shoko said.
Musono won last year’s JZ Ebunandini Singles competition which was the season’s opening tournament with Agere being first runner-up while Mikazhu came third.
Manguni plays against men in league games and she is a favourite to win the women’s competition.
The winner in the women’s category will take home $100 with the first runner-up getting $50 while the second runner-up will walk home $30 richer. Fourth and fifth players players will get a consolation prize of $10.
The prizes in the men’s competition are more enticing as there is $200 for the winner.
The first runner-up will walk away with $150 with the second runner up getting $100, while the fourth player is set to pocket $80.
Losing quarter-finalists will get $40 with those that make it into the last 16 getting a crate of beer each.
