MATABELELAND South has received seven hay balers and seven mowers under the Presidential Agricultural Input Programme being spearheaded by President Mnangagwa.

The equipment has been distributed to all seven districts in the province in a move expected to strengthen agricultural capacity, improve fodder production and enhance drought preparedness.

The distribution marks a major boost for the livestock-focused province, where hay baling plays a critical role in ensuring adequate feed supplies during dry periods.

Matabeleland South provincial Agricultural and Rural Development Advisory Services (AARDS) director, Mrs Shupikai Sibanda, said the equipment would help the province meet its hay baling targets.

“We have received seven hay balers and seven mowers as a province. This is a major boost for us as a province in addition to the tractors that we received last year. The balers and mowers will greatly assist us with our hay baling programme.

“Hay baling is crucial for the province as it helps to ensure that we have enough fodder for our livestock. We are a cattle region and the development of our economy as a province is dependant on the performance of livestock,” she said.

The latest consignment adds to agricultural machinery that the province received last year and is expected to improve fodder harvesting efficiency across districts.

Livestock production remains a key economic activity in Matabeleland South, making investment in hay production equipment vital for safeguarding the province’s cattle industry, especially during drought periods.
