MATABELELAND South Province will next year host the Inter-Ministerial Sports Festival, the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Nicholas Moyo, has revealed.
This year’s games were hosted by Bulawayo Metropolitan Province with United College of Education (UCE), Gifford and Northlea High schools playing host to some of the events.
Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development conquered. “We want to say thank you to Bulawayo for successfully hosting this year’s games. Next year, the games will be hosted by Matabeleland South and we challenge them to get ready and emulate Bulawayo,” said
Moyo after a total of 26 ministries and five parastatals took part in the sporting fiesta.
This was a sporting meet that was meant to enhance recreational activities through a collaborative, Government-wide approach.
The guest of honour at this year’s games was Vincent Hungwe, who is the Public Service Commission (PSC) chairperson.
Speaking on his behalf, his deputy, Nomathemba Ndiweni said: “I express positive sentiment on this noble and purposeful commitment to forge lasting linkages within a whole-of-Government context through this Inter-Ministerial Sports Festival. Such collaboration is not an end in itself but a means of advancing the broader vision of the Public Service Commission (PSC), whose mandate goes beyond structures and policies to shaping a united and resilient workforce dedicated to serving citizens with excellence. This festival embodies that vision, demonstrating that when Ministries converge in harmony and shared purpose, we not only promote health and camaraderie but also re-inforce the very foundations of good governance and sustainable national progress.”
The PSC boss added: “Your presence at this festival underscores the weight of harmonised, whole-of-Government approaches in serving the Zimbabwean people. It sends a clear message: wellness, unity and collaboration are not optional ideals, they are the lifeblood of a resilient, high-performing public service and the foundation of our shared national success.”
It was also highlighted that the significance of the Inter-Ministerial Sports Festival to Public Service cannot be overstated.
“Extensive scientific research consistently demonstrates a direct link between physical activity and enhanced workplace performance, wellness fuels productivity, sharpens focus and alleviates stress.
By engaging in sports and recreational activities, we create invaluable opportunities to break down bureaucratic silos, foster cross-ministerial collaboration and nurture emerging talent across departments. This interaction will also foster intergenerational dialogue, as the chosen disciplines span all age groups.” — @FungaiMuderere
