Matabeleland to mark World Consumer Day belatedly

World Consumer day is marked on 15 March every year. This year the theme is “Our Money: Our Right”.
In an interview, the Consumer Council                          of Zimbabwe (CCZ) regional manager Mr           Comfort Muchekeza said their annual   general meeting (AGM) would be held at                             a date yet to be confirmed early next                        month.

“This year Matabeleland region will hold  belated World Consumer Day celebrations because we have planned to commemorate  the day after our AGM which will bring in a new board.
“The AGM will be held sometime early next month on a date yet to be confirmed by our head office,” he said adding that the day would be celebrated mid-April.

Mr Muchekeza said the regional office was                on the ground preparing for the             commemorations.
“We are preparing for the celebrations. As we speak there are few issues that we are left with as we prepare for the event. Few issues that we are yet to finalise are to do with booking the venue,            hiring of police escort and light entertainment,” he said.

He said they had identified participants to display issues on consumerism during the celebrations and these included business organisations, schools and consumer action clubs.
Efforts to get a comment from the CCZ executive director Ms Rosemary Siyachitema on the national celebrations preparations were unsuccessful as her mobile number continuously went unanswered.

World Consumer Day is celebrated to highlight consumer rights which include the right to basic education, right to information, right to choose, right to safety, right to be heard, right to redress, right to consumer education and right to a healthy environment.
