Matabeleland Tuskers thrash Southern Rocks

The win saw Matabeleland Tuskers, defending champions in the Logan Cup, regain top spot after their last two home matches against Midwest Rhinos and Mountaineers ended in draws due to bad weather. Tuskers will, however, have to wait for the result of the fixture between Mashonaland Eagles and Midwest Rhinos before they are confirmed as being on top of the log at the end of the seventh round.

A brilliant bowling display by Matabeleland Tuskers saw them being set a meagre total in their second innings, which they chased with ease.
Matabeleland Tuskers won the toss and opted to field. That move paid off as Southern Rocks were bowled out for 83 runs in 41 overs.

Fast bowlers Glenn Querl and Njabulo Ncube took nine wickets between them. Querl picked up five wickets for 28 runs in 17 overs, nine of those overs being maidens while Ncube had two wickets for 17 runs in nine overs, three of them costing no run.

Matabeleland Tuskers did have a good first innings, making 177 runs in 61.3 overs with a high score of 62 runs coming from Richard Jones who was making his debut for Tuskers. Skipper Gavin Ewing was the second highest scorer with 53 runs.

In their second innings, Southern Rocks were bowled out for 125 runs, Kudzai Maunze the highest run scorer   with 43 runs. Ncube ran riot, taking seven wickets  for 35 runs, Querl had two wickets while Jones picked one wicket.

Set 32 runs to win, Matabeleland Tuskers used up 9.1  overs to reach the target and claim all the seven points from the match. The win keeps them in the hunt to defend their title as the top two teams compete in the final of the competition.
