Matabeleland Warriors ready for NRL final

He was confident that with their level of preparedness, they can surprise Harare Sports Club who are favourites to lift the trophy.

Matabeleland Warriors were the only club that beat Harare Sports Club in the league with a close 29-28 scoreline in the second leg which was played at Hartsfield Stadium. In the first leg, Matabeleland Warriors had lost 42-25.

“Everyone is raring to go. The guys have been training hard and being a final, obviously morale in camp is high. We showed character when we played Old Georgians in the semi-finals and the guys want to wrap it up with a win and bring the trophy to Bulawayo.

“We know that Harare Sports Club have good players but we also have equally good guys capable of matching them. We have to concentrate throughout the game, try to open them up and avoid giving away the ball unnecessarily,” Kumpasa said.

Kumpasa scored four tries, with Mike Zvakavapano, Ozzy Lynx, Audrey Dube and Percy Ncube getting a try each for Matabeleland Warriors in their last meeting, while Harare Sports Club got theirs from Cleopas Makotose and Lenience Tambwira.

On their way to the final, Matabeleland Warriors beat Old Georgians 18-17 with loose forward Biselele Tshamala’s try and penalty goal giving the Bulawayo side an edge over their opponents in the semi-finals, while Harare Sports Club cruised to a comfortable 25-6 victory over Old Hararians.

Some of the players who have been key in Matabeleland Warriors’ success include player/coach Kumpasa, Zvakavapano, Lynx, Dube, Tapiwa Mangezi and Percy Ncube.

Winger Lloyd Machanjaire, Tshamala and Jafet Ndebele have been in sublime form for the star-studded

Bulawayo outfit with the likes of Paul Staak playing home games.

Kumpasa said he would name his travelling team tomorrow.
