MUTARE businessman Mr Hlanganiso Matangaidze has been re-elected as the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce national president for another year. Mr Matangaidze was retained during a ZNCC’s Annual General Meeting and congress held in Victoria Falls recently. This will be his last term and he will be deputised by Mr Davison Norupiri who was also re-elected, together with the regional vice-presidents Mr Obert Muzawazi (Manicaland), Mrs Divine Ndhukula (Harare), Dr Alva Senderayi (Midlands) and Mr Roland Makaure (Matabeleland).
Mr Matangaidze said during his second tenure he would continue to strive towards anchoring the voice of the business community in national development.
He said over the past year a lot has been achieved by the chamber to open and facilitate dialogue with Government.
“I am honoured that the chamber found it fitting to retain me for another year. During my second tenure I hope to continue to facilitate dialogue with Government being the voice of business.
“The economic blueprint Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation needs a lot of rapport between the private sector and the business community to be a success, which is where ZNCC comes in,” said Mr Matangaidze.
Mr Matangaidze added that policy consistency and developing partnerships with the international community was crucial to the achievement of Zim-Asset goals.
“Yes, we know that the country’s $10 billion debt remains a stumbling block and Zim-Asset requires $27 billion, but paying such a debt and funding such a blueprint are a process.
“Through some programmes being conducted by the International Monetary Fund, Government is opening dialogue to engage with the international community and have funds availed. We have people out there willing to invest in Zimbabwe, which is why policy consistency is really crucial at this juncture and that is what we will continue to advocate for as a chamber.
“Debt resolution will improve the country’s credit rating and in the process attract new Foreign Direct Investment,” Mr Matangaidze said.
