Matapure’s remains yet to be collected for burial

DNA test results conducted in South Africa on the skeletal remains found at the Exhibition Park in November last year matched that of Given Flint Matapure. Matapure (3) went missing at the Exhibition Park in August last year during the Harare Agricultural Show. The results arrived in the country last month.

Police contacted the Matapure family informing them about the DNA test results and that they should collect the remains.
Police sources yesterday confirmed that the remains were still at Harare Hospital mortuary. They said the Matapure family has not been communicating with them.

National police spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri yesterday said the remains were still at the mortuary.
“We are still waiting for the parents to come and collect the remains. We notified them on the outcome of the DNA results. So the remains are yet to be collected and I am sure they will collect them soon,” he said.

A family spokesperson, Mr Godwin Matapure, yesterday said they had not collected the remains.
“The issue at hand is that our family elders need to consult first (with traditional healers). They are still looking into the issue with a view to ascertain what actually transpired and the motive behind the matter,” he said.
