Matema fails to find home

FORMER Highlanders FC hitman Ralph Matema is still looking for a team after being released by South Africa’s National First Division side Witbank Spurs during the off-season. The nomadic striker is still hopeful that he will get a team either in the Absa Premiership or in the NFD where he played last season.

Matema, once a feared striker during his heydays at Bosso, believes his experience in the beautiful game will be an additional advantage for him to get a team soon.

“I love playing football, it is my life and being on the sidelines will not discourage me at all as I’m a seasoned player. In football people must understand that sometimes it doesn’t go according to plan, that means we must stay courageous and hopeful”.

The former Warriors striker said he is training hard and is fit. He believes he still has much to offer to South African football. Matema said playing back home is not on his mind right now except if there are better offers. He didn’t divulge teams which have shown interest in his services.

Matema arrived in the PSL a few seasons ago after being signed by former Caf Champions League winners Orlando Pirates.
Spurs have since signed former Highlanders and ZPC Hwange striker Cleopas Dube.
